The Plan!
If it ain't broke don't fix it right? Well, that's what they say anyway. We've had some pretty good success with our plan in previous years so we're going to keep the formula pretty much the same for the time being. With the exception of this year we're adding a Southern leg that will be departing from Kentucky and meeting up with the Northerners in Pittsburgh on Thursday night.
We break the rally down into 4 separate stages:
- The drive from Kenosha to Pittsburgh with a scheduled stop along the way to meet up with the folks from Michigan, Indiana & Ohio.
- Or, if you're on the Southern leg, the drive from Lexington to Pittsburgh with two scheduled stops along the way.
- The drive from Pittsburgh to Ocean City.
- The debauchery that happens once in Ocean City for H2Oi.
- The drive back, beat, hungover, broken and sad that we'll have to wait another 12 months before we can do it all again.
Stage 1 Northern Style
Same as last year, the official starting point for the Northern leg of the Rally will be Kenosha, WI at the Brat Stop located at 12304 75th St., and roll out is scheduled for 7 AM on Thursday September 23th.
There will be a quick stop in Chicago at US Cellular Field to meet up with the Chi folks and then everyone will be heading out for Pitt. Anticipate meeting up with the WI folks here sometime between 8:30 and 9:00.
The scheduled rest stop will be the Fallen Timbers Plaza at Mile Marker 49 in Ohio. This rest stop is roughly half way between Kenosha and Pittsburgh so is the most logical choice. Also, this will be the designated meet-up point for all those joining the LBR from MI, IN, OH... Planned arrival time at the Plaza is 12:30 central time. We'll be sticking around for about 30 minutes, just enough time to go potty, grab a quick bite to eat and gas up then we'll be rolling out again. From there the next stop will be Pittsburgh where we'll be spending the night and partying with the locals.
Stage 1 of the Northern leg is approximately 527 miles and should take somewhere around 8.5 hours to complete. So plan on arriving at the hotel in PA at around 6:30/7:00 PA time.
Stage 1 Southern Style
This year year we're really excited to announce the addition of a Southern leg of the Rally. The Southern leg of this years LBR will be leaving from Lexington, KY at 11a.m. on Thursday the 23rd. The designated meeting spot is the Starbucks @1869 Plaudit Place, Lexington, KY 40509. Exit 104 off I75.
The first stop is approximately 107 miles from Lexington and will be at the Speedway Gas Station @ Exit 19 just outside Cincinnati on I71-N (12184 Mason Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249). The scheduled arrival time is 1pm. and we will be leaving again at 1:30 p.m.
The second stop is approximately 96 miles from stop #1 and will be outside of Columbus at the Starbucks @ 2560 Brice Rd. Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. The scheduled arrival time is 3:15 p.m. and we will be leaving again at 3:30 p.m.
The last leg of the trip is 175 miles and should take approximately 3.5 hours to complete, which will put us at the Red Roof Inn in Monroeville (2729 Mosside Blvd, Monroeville 15146) at about 7:00 p.m.
Stage 1 of the Southern leg is approximately 389 miles and should take somewhere around 8 hours to complete (with stops). So plan on arriving at the hotel in PA at around 6:30/7:00.
Stage 2
We will begin Stage 2 at 7:30 AM Friday morning when we roll out from Pittsburgh to continue our cruise down to Ocean City, MD. The meet-up spot for Stage 2 will be the whichever hotel we finally make arrangements with, so stay tuned for updates. Please make sure to be gassed up and ready to go so that we don't need to stop right away for anything. Stage 2 is approximately 370 miles and should take roughly 6.5 hours from start to finish so plan on being in Ocean City partying it up by about 3:00 Friday afternoon.
The first scheduled rest stop will be in Breezewood at the Family House Restaurant & Gift Shop. blah, blah, blah... info to come
This stop is approximately ?hrs and ??? miles from the hotel in Pittsburgh.
The second scheduled rest stop will be at Exit 29A on RT50, near The Bay Bridge/Buschs Frontage Road. It's easy to get on and off the highway here, plus there is a WaWa and a McDonalds as well as lots of room to park along the side of the road while waiting for others. This is where we will be meeting up with folks from the Baltimore area and those coming down from York, PA.
This rest stop is approximately 4.5hrs and 253 miles from the hotel in Pittsburgh.
There will be one final meet up point just outside of OC so that everyone can re-group and we can all roll in together. The plan here is the same as it has been for the last several years, everyone meet up at the WalMart on 50 so that we can get organized, grab a couple of good group shots and then all roll over the bridge and down the strip together. Plan on meeting up here at between 2:00 and 3:00 Friday afternoon.
Stage 2 of our trip is approximately 370 miles and should take somewhere around 6.5 hours to complete. So plan on being in Ocean City and partying it up by about two or three in the afternoon.
Stage 3
Once in Ocean City you will be responsible for your own lodging. However, we are working on putting together a LBR GTG once in OC so stay tuned.
Sit back, relax, crack open a cold beer and enjoy the festivities. H2Oi is without a doubt a fantastic show but that’s not what makes this weekend so much fun, it’s the parties, getting to hang out with friends, watchin' the cars cruise the strip... all of it makes for one killer experience.
Stage 4
The drive home is pretty much up to you. We're planning on meeting up at the WalMart at 10:30 AM Monday morning and making our way back to the hotel in Pittsburgh. This way, we’re back in Pittsburgh by 5 or 6, we can hang out a bit, grab some grub (we found a great place right down the street from the hotel with some amazing burgers) and then get some sleep. We'll then head out at 9:00 AM Tuesday morning for the drive back to Chicago.
It would be great if we could make the return trip together but we completely understand that some folks’ schedules and impatience won’t allow for that. However, if you would like to join us please do. We’ll just be winging our Rest stops etc. so this really will just be a leisurely drive home.
