LBR from Chicago, IL and to Tail Of The Dragon, in Robbinsville, NC. for Wookies in the Woods 2012.

Join us for LBR's first ever, dragonRUN, as we rally down to Wookies in the Woods 2012. What's Wookies in the Woods you ask? Well, it's the annual gathering of .:R32 and Volkswagen enthusiasts from all over the country at the infamous Tail Of The Dragon, US129, in Robbinsville, NC. The Dragon is known internationally for its 318 curves over eleven miles, and is the United States’ number one motorcycle and sports car road. The weekend event kicks off with small get-together meets on Friday, small group runs through the Dragon and concludes with a big group barbecue on Saturday as well as a bonfire.

Northwest Leg (Chicago, IL): Departure - Thursday April 19th (very early morning) - Return - Sunday April 22nd 2012 (late evening):

    Points on the map:

A = Gas/Initial Meetup - South Holland Oasis on the I-294 highway headed Southbound - Meetup by 3am on Thursday 4-19-2012, gas up at the Mobil, grab any Red Bull, coffee, beef jerky, etc, for the road, wait for everyone to gather there, and LEAVE BY 3:45AM Central Time AT THE LATEST. You can be there early, but the caravan will be leaving 3:45ish.

B = Cracker Barrel Restaurant (opens at 6AM Eastern time) Arrival estimated 7:21AM. Distance and time according to google maps since point A = 152 miles and 2hrs 36min. Figure on a solid hour for everyone to get served and eat. So let's say we leave by 7:30am after we get gas at the Shell. There is a Marathon gas station right next to the Cracker Barrel, but I think most would agree that we can settle on the better gas and drive a few minutes extra to the Shell.

C = Gas - Shell Approximate time to fill up 20-30 minutes, departure around 9:00am. Distance is 1.5 miles about 5 minutes driving from the restaurant. Not too far down from the Cracker Barrel, just a bit down the street.

D = Gas - Pilot Travel Center Arrival estimated 12:21-12:30pm. Distance and time according to google maps since point B/C = 191 miles and 3hrs 21min. Tons of food spots nearby, Chick-Fil-A, Subway, KFC, McDonald's, etc. Fill up first, then eat wherever you'd like. Meet BACK at the Pilot gas station when you're done. 1/2 hour to eat, and we LEAVE at around 1:00pm.

E = Gas - Pilot Gas Station - Last gas fill up before the boonies aka last normally priced gas station Arrival estimated 4:11-4:20pm, tank up (apprx 20 min again) and leave. Distance and time according to google maps since point D = 201miles and 3hrs and 20min.

F = Fontana Village/THE END Arrival estimated 5:31-5:40pm. Distance and time according to google maps since point E = 46 miles and 58min.

Total, approximate, travel time and distance for the Northeast Leg = 590 Miles, 10.25 hours.

    Northeast Leg (Westbrook, CT)

This potential route will use the George Washington Bridge, but we can change it to the Tappan Zee Bridge if traffic will be too much. I don’t anticipate it being very crowded at around 6:30am.

If a lot of Central CT. guys end up joining, we can move the start to the Milford area since they will come down I-91 to save time.

Everyone should have an EZ Pass or equivalent toll pass to avoid paying with cash.

    Walkie Talkies are recommended

This route utilizes on-route truck stops. I know I prefer to run V-Power or Mobil gasoline in my R32, but I can handle using service center gasoline for two or three tanks. If others have concern with this we can adjust the service center stops to ensure they have quality fuels available.

    Points on the map:

A & B = Gas/Initial Meetup - Westbrook, CT at Commuter Lot/Denny’s – Exit 65 off of I-95 in Connecticut - Schedule to leave at 4:00am EST, meet by 3:40am. Here, we will distribute printed itineraries, t-shirts, decals, swag, etc. If you plan to apply blue-painters tape but it slipped your mind, now is the time to do it. Maybe will snap a couple pictures of the long-haul group starting bright and early. There is a gas station next to the lot, but the Dunkin Donuts will likely be closed at this time of morning, so bring your own coffee, as the gas station may not have it. If the group must have coffee, we will try and arrange something. If necessary, we'll make a brief, 5 minute, stop at the commuter lot in Milford, CT to pick up Central CT guys.

C = Vince Lombardi Service Area at 6:15am– Grab quick breakfast if you didn’t bring any, pick up anyone from New York, New York City, Northern New Jersey. Distance and travel time from departure point approximately, 71.4 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes.

D = Center Pointe Plaza, Newark, DE Arrive at Center Pointe Plaza – Best Buy (Newark, DE) approximately 9:00am – Time to fuel up (find fuel nearby), and pick up any cars from the Philadelphia, PA region. Return to the road at 9:15am. Distance and travel time from Vince Lombardi Service Area approximately, 126 miles and 2 hours 18 minutes.

E = Sheetz Travel Center – 227 Conicville Blvd, Mount Jackson, VA approximately 1:00pm - Pick up Baltimore area, Washington D.C. area cars, grab lunch in the area. Cars from Harrisburg, PA, or Pittsburgh, PA areas will be closest to this point. Fuel up here, the next and final stop will be Roanoke, VA. We will take a half an hour stop for lunch, unless everyone finishes sooner. Plan to be back on the road at 1:20pm. Distance and travel time from Center Pointe Plaza, approximately, 204 miles, 3 hours 38 minutes.

F = I-81 Travel Plaza - L5722 Lee Hwy, Max Meadows, VA at 4:35pm – Pick up anyone in the Virginia area – including Roanoke, Lynchburg, Richmond, and coastal areas if they want to go out of their way a little bit. The final leg to our destination will be 271 miles further, so we will fuel up here and likely use most of our tanks on the last run. We will return to the road at 4:50pm or when everyone is finished fueling. Distance and travel time from Sheetz Travel Center, approximately, 188 Miles, 3 hours 14 minutes.

G = Fontana Village/THE END – 300 Woods Road, Fontana Dam, NC approximately 9:30pm – We have arrived! Distance and travel time from I-81 Travel Plaza, approximately, 271 miles, 4 hours 35 minutes to Fontana Village Resort (This can be split in two if necessary, may want to get dinner as a group, but we would get there late. We can explore this option later.).

Total, approximate, travel time and distance for the Northeast Leg = 900 Miles, 17.5 hours.

Hope to see a lot of you folks there.
